About Us At Cadgraphics, we make high-tech software for fire and security alarms. Our software can also help you with facility management, integrated building systems, and homeland security. Cadgraphics lets you access all of the data from every fire and security alarm and "smart" device in your building — in a single, streamlined interface that's easy to read and understand.
Cadgraphics saves money, saves time, saves property, and saves lives, with software that makes it possible to monitor fire alarm and security systems from standard PCs and computer networks.
Our values and beliefs require that we:
Cadgraphics software was first developed in 1988, when founder Dan Horon was a fire protection engineer. In a stroke of innovation — and inspiration — he decided to use AutoCAD to show graphics, maps, and floor plans of fire alarm systems on DOS-based computers. For the next five years, Horon continually refined the software he invented for the job. In 1993, he bought the rights to the software and the “Cadgraphics” trademark from his employer, founded Horon Research, Inc., and began to develop and sell Cadgraphics full time. He managed most aspects of Cadgraphics sales, primarily to fire alarm manufacturers, distributors, and building managers. Horon also built and tested systems and provided technical service and support to customers. By 1998, Windows software was in demand by computer users and facilities, and it was reliable enough for use in large facilities. Cadgraphics customers around the world requested a Windows version of Cadgraphics software. That year, Cadgraphics contracted with two Windows experts to convert the DOS-based software to a Windows platform. After almost ten years of helping customers keep their systems current, Cadgraphics saw the need to automate the process. The new Windows-based product was the perfect opportunity, and the new software solved problems that had previously plagued the fire alarm and security industry. Before Cadgraphics was introduced, it was difficult, if not impossible, to update and monitor fire-alarm systems as buildings were remodeled. Fire alarm technicians and building managers were frustrated by systems that combined devices from multiple manufacturers. When alarms went off — whether during tests, false alarms, or actual emergencies — security teams were forced to analyze events and create service reports manually. Cadgraphics automated re-design and remodeling, and even event analysis. In 2000, the U.S. Patent Office notified Cadgraphics that its application for a software patent had been approved. The U.S. Patent Office awarded Dan Horon a comprehensive patent on his techniques and technologies in May 2001. Horon received another patent in 2002. |
